A “village heater” for wattendorf?

Andreas popp uses an example to illustrate how much warmth is contained in his biogas plant: "if we aerate a container with 37 cubic meters of fresh wood with warm air from our biogas plant, about six to seven tons of water are gone within six days. It sort of vanishes into thin air". That's what happens when franz and andreas popp use the waste heat from their biogas plant to enable a firewood company in the neighboring village to dry the raw material wood.

Because actually electrical energy is produced in the biogas plant. With an output of 366 kw, an estimated three million kilowatt hours per year are fed into the power grid and compensated according to the EEG (renewable energies act). However, only part of the warm energy produced during the gasification process – and that is another 2.7 million kilowatt hours – can be used, the rest escapes into the environment.

But this is to change according to the will of the operators like the wattendorfer. About 25 houses could be heated with the warmth, estimates andreas popp, at costs well below those of oil and gas, if only the appropriate pipelines were built. Due to rising energy costs and the efforts of the municipality of wattendorf and the citizens to use the potential of renewable energy in the region in the context of climate protection, a concept for a decentralized heating energy supply ("village heating") is to be developed.

The first step in this direction was taken by the town council under the leadership of mayor rudolf krapp (CSU), who awarded the contract for a feasibility study to a bureau from rodental. The smallest municipality in the county is spending 8,000 euros on the project to assess its economic viability. Five out of the six offices contacted had submitted bids. What was chosen, however, was not the cheapest, but the most economical. And whether the contract will be awarded also depended on a demand from the state of bavaria. The question of the demand – rates of 50 to 70 percent are being discussed – is to be clarified in the next few days, while the matter remains on mayor krapp's desk in the steinfeld town hall.

The main purpose of the study is to find out how many buildings are connected to the network can become and which are meaningful. "Once the pipe is ready, the warm one can immediately love it. For this, only a heat exchanger had to be realized in a transfer station (for this there is a fixed amount requirement). The requirement for the heating pipe depends on its length; a pipe about one kilometer long was needed.

Strabe is being built
The road linking grobziegenfeld and mahrenhull is to be extended together with the town of weismain (lichtenfels district). Burgermeistger krapp submitted a letter from the government of upper franconia to the municipal council, according to which the request for a deadline of 1 january 2009 had to be met. June are to be put. On the wattendorf side the length of the road is 520 meters, on the city of weismain 1800 meters.
